From the food editor: Aurora grocer collects recipes for second edition cookbook

Rabbit stew might not be in your current recipe rotation so if you're wondering how to make it, look no further than "Prisco's Family & Friends' Cookbook."

The popular Aurora supermarket recently released a second edition of its cookbook that features 329 recipes from more than 100 contributors. The rabbit stew recipe comes from Aurora resident Jerry Pigatti who claims the "recipe goes back to when my great grandparents came from Italy in 1855!" (And, yes, Prisco's occasionally stocks rabbit meat - look for it in the freezer cases.)

If you're not game for game, there are plenty of other recipes to tempt your taste buds in the categories of appetizers, soups and salads, main dishes, side dishes, breads and rolls, desserts, cookies and candies. The book also includes a primer on spices and pantry basics as well as tips for baking, selecting produce and folding napkins. Vintage photos from the Prisco family album illustrate each chapter-header page.

To get your hands on a copy, head to the store, 1108 Prairie St., or call (630) 264-9400. The book costs $14.99 plus tax.

Take it slow: Slow isn't just a way of cooking, it's a lifestyle for Meg Barnhart and Jane McKay. The suburban moms will share their slow-cooking recipes and mindful living advice during a cooking class Thursday, Feb. 26, at Sunset Foods Lake Forest Cooking Studio.

During the class, 7 to 8:30 p.m., the duo will demonstrate how to prepare a variety of dishes and offer tips for meeting the family mealtime challenge.

Barnhart and Jane McKay are the co-creators of The Zen of Slow Cooking (thezenofslowcooking.com) recipe blog site. The menu includes "overnight prep" Italian beef, an adaptation of Ina Garten's mushroom and leek bread pudding and decadent pots de crème. Guests will also receive a complimentary glass of wine during the class and will take home recipes for all of the items prepared during the demonstration.

The class costs $30 and advance registration is required. The Lake Forest store is at 825 S. Waukegan Road. Visit https://sfthyme.eventbrite.com and, while you're there, check out other available classes. A class on how to get the most from your food processor is set for March 15 at the Long Grove location.
