Drill teams display expertise at Marmion event

Marmion Academy's Flannigan Rifles JROTC Military Drill Team hosted the 11th annual Colonel Earl K. Buchan Invitational Drill Meet Saturday in Regole Field House and Alumni Hall Gymnasium, 1000 Butterfield Road, Aurora.

Schools from throughout Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Kentucky competed in duet, color guard, armed regulation inspection, armed regulation platoon, unarmed exhibition platoon, armed exhibition squad and armed exhibition platoon. As hosts, Marmion's teams, No. 3 in the nation in 2014, performed, but will not compete for trophies.

Those performing included the Fern Creek Lady Leathernecks, 3-year national champions in the Alternate Arms competition, and the Fern Creek Leathernecks, No. 2 in the nation in 2014.
