See free screening of 'Symphony of the Soil' in Grayslake

Learn about soil - the foundation to life on Earth - at a screening of the award-winning film "Symphony of the Soil" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at the Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake. Admission is free and at the door only.

Soil is alive, and its health and survival are intricately connected to that of all life. "Symphony of the Soil" explores the complexity of soil as it looks into soil science and other topics that support the case for treating soil with care.

The film portrays soil as a protagonist of the Earth's planetary story, sharing voices of some of the world's most esteemed soil scientists, plus gripping film footage from four continents.

Using a mix of art and science, "Symphony of the Soil" shows that soil is a complex, living organism and treating it right can help solve some environmental problems.

After the film, mingle with area organic farmers and organizations dedicated to sustainable agriculture, conservation and environmental education. Farm businesses include Gretta's Goats, Living Lands Conservation Company, Marigold Hill Organics, Prairie Farm Corps youth development program, Radical Root Farm, Sandhill Family Farms, and Yaw-Ye Farms.

Participating organizations include the College of Lake County, Conserve Lake County, FamilyFarmed.org, Growing Healthy People, Jamie Oliver Food Foundation's Lake County Food Revolution, and Village Homesteading Mundelein. Beekeepers include Annie's Apiaries and the Lake County Beekeepers Association.

The Byron Colby Barn is at 1561 Jones Point Road in Grayslake, inside the Prairie Crossing conservation community. Free parking is located in the parking lot adjacent to the Barn.
