Images: Photo Contest Finalists

Each week you submit your favorite photo. We pick the best of them and select the finalists. Here are the finalists for the week of February 9.

This photo called "Fish Scales" was taken by the Fox River in North Aurora. The fish had died and washed up on shore. The intricacy of its scales intrigued me and I took this close-up photo. Steve Surdynski of Aurora
I took this photo on January 28th when I ventured out to Starved Rock State Park. I Wanted to capture the cool coloration of ice and the warm colors of sandstone formations and tall grasses. Along the Illinois River just east past LaSalle Canyon a beached yellow boat lies along the shoreline. The attached photo which required a three shot bracket is my entry. I was driving down main street in Downers Grove after our 15 inches of snow and these stopped me in my tracks. I circled the block and came back and photographed them.I liked the abstract quality and the contrast of the white and black shadows on the red bricks. Todd A. Sherlock, from Downers Grove
As I was walking through Cantigny Park during the snow, I paused in front of the Doughboy statue. I thought for a moment of our WWI soldiers and for a brief moment I could envision this soldier forging through the snow and the cold fighting for us.
