Lake County schools to take part in spelling bee sectionals

On Feb. 17, 25 and 26, students from 117 public and nonpublic schools in Lake County will participate in three spelling bee sectional contests co-sponsored by the Lake County Regional Office of Education and the Jelly Belly Candy Company.

Four finalists from each sectional will then compete in the Lake County Final Spelling Bee at the College of Lake County Thursday, March 19. One final winner will be selected for a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

All expenses for the seven-day trip will be paid cooperatively by the Lake County Regional Office of Education and the Jelly Belly Candy Company.

The sectionals are scheduled as follows:

• Section 1: Thursday, Feb. 26, at South Park School, 1421 Hackberry Road, Deerfield.

• Section 2: Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Forrestal Elementary School, 2833 E. Washington St., Great Lakes.

• Section 3: Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Woodland Middle School, 7000 Washington St., Gurnee.
