Motorola Solutions buys Emergency CallWorks

Schaumburg-based Motorola Solutions Inc., which makes communication equipment for public safety and commercial customers, has acquired Emergency CallWorks, a privately held provider of 9-1-1 call-taking software.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition comes in the wake of speculation that Motorola Solutions itself would be acquired by another company. Reports surfaced last week from unnamed sources that Motorola was already in talks but a deal wasn't imminent.

Emergency CallWorks was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Birmingham, Ala.

Motorola Solutions Executive Vice President Bob Schassler said the acquisition “reinforces Motorola Solutions' commitment to helping its customers” and expands its business providing Next Generation 911, an initiative to improve public safety communications in the U.S. and Canada.

“Together, Motorola Solutions and Emergency CallWorks have a clear, shared vision for the potential of NG911, and we are excited about the opportunity to accelerate adoption in the marketplace through Motorola Solutions,” said Craig Parker, CEO of Emergency CallWorks, who will continue to lead the Emergency CallWorks team at Motorola Solutions.
