Perfect FIT at Elgin school

About 25 fifth-grade students from McKinley Elementary School in Elgin received pedometers Tuesday provided by nurses from Advocate Sherman Hospital to help teach kids the importance of physical activity and its effect on health.

The kids will participate in Pedometers FIT Together, an eight-week program that provides students with a tool to measure and set goals, as well as discover new and creative ways to increase their physical activity. They received a step log and activity sheets as well as the pedometers.

Students will track their results for eight weeks, before being honored at the end of the program. Sherman Hospital staff members will also educate the students, parents and others at school on the importance of staying active.
