Don't subsidize those who can't afford children

The front-page story "Low-income children who must stay home" correctly highlights the negative ripple effect of the state funding cuts on daycare center and small business owners.

I suggest that instead of looking to continue to subsidize child education and day care for people who can't afford it, that attention be redirected to finding ways for people who can't afford to properly raise children to stop having children.

I love children, but made a conscious decision 25 years ago to have only two because that was all we felt we could afford to properly take care of. Why should we be asked to pay for others to have more children through higher taxes and fees, instead of contributing to incentives for them to be responsible?
