Super what? Addison woman's Comcast bill arrives with profane name

WGN-TV and the Chicago Tribune reported Thursday that an Addison woman received her cable bill with her name changed to a slur.

Mary Bauer said her Comcast bill arrived with her name changed to Super Bitch Bauer.

The bill came after she had not received a bill in four months, she told WGN, and she called to ask for her balance.

"I was little hot and a little angry because I never got good service," she told WGN. But she said she didn't swear or call anybody names.

She told the Tribune she had previously had technicians out to her house 39 times in four months to work on the X1 box she upgraded to in January 2014, which performed sporadically. She got her old box back but never received the credit she wanted, then soon saw her bill increase.

She called to complain, then stopped receiving bills until she called again and got the insulting bill.

"We are investigating this thoroughly, and we have reached out to our customer," the Tribune reported Comcast spokesman Jack Segal saying in a statement.

In 2005, LaChania Govan of Elgin had a similar experience with Comcast, the Associated Press reported. Her bill was addressed to "Bitch Dog."

Govan said at the time the only thing she did to Comcast employees that might be considered rude came after a few dozen calls when she felt she was treated shabbily while being bounced around. "I did tell them, 'You know what, it has to be a qualification to work for your company that you have to be rude,'" she said.

Comcast officials said at the time the name change shouldn't have happened.

"We only use the actual customers names on the bill," said Patricia Andrews-Keenan, a Comcast spokeswoman.

Govan said apologies and firings came only after her story was published in the Chicago Tribune and gained widespread media attention, but she also told the Tribune she appreciated Comcast's actions. She had been offered two months' free service but turned it down.
