Dispute over pot sale leads to robbery charge

A dispute over a $30 marijuana sale Saturday night turned into a tussle that led to the arrest of a 23-year-old Streamwood man on robbery charges, prosecutors said.

Kemill Long was ordered held on $60,000 bond Monday on charges that he took a cellphone from a woman who had purchased marijuana from him, according to Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Gbenga Longe.

The woman paid Long $20, $10 less than he believed he was owed, Longe said. That led to a physical altercation, during which Long attempted to go through the woman's pockets in an attempt to find the money, Longe said.

Instead, Long took the woman's cellphone as "collateral," Longe said.

Witnesses called police, who recovered the cellphone with the defendant, Longe said.

Long next appears in court on Feb. 20.
