Power outages reported during Chicago area storm

CHICAGO (AP) - Thousands of Illinoisans are without power as a winter storm is pelting the region.

ComEd says roughly 18,000 customers have lost power as of Sunday afternoon. Most are in suburban areas outside Chicago.

Officials say the utility company's emergency operations center is open and closely monitoring the severe weather system.

Meteorologists say there's a blizzard warning in effect for the Chicago area until late Sunday. Up to 18 inches of snow are possible with up to 40 mph winds.

Chicago area officials with Comcast say they've got extra technicians on call to deal with outages to make sure customers can enjoy the game.
