Huntley Friends group donates $42,000 to library

The Huntley Area Public Library Friends Foundation donated more than $42,000 to the library during 2014, including a cash donation of $30,000 in December.

The foundation organizes fundraising events for the library and pursues grant opportunities.

"We provide funding for additional resources and materials for the residents of the district, so all the money raised at different events comes back to our community," said liaison Pamela Kampwerth. "This past year, the Friends Foundation paid for all the library programs held each month, summer and winter reading programs, some library databases, more copies of popular e-books, and some library furnishings."

In February, Friends is celebrating Library Lovers' Month as they have done for many years. This year, the funds raised will be used specifically for library programs by selling heart sponsorships. Purchase a heart for $1, $5, $10 or $25 and write your name or business name on it to show your support of our community. Hearts will decorate the library throughout the month.

On Saturday, Feb. 7, and Sunday, Feb. 8, the Friends will have a book sale in the library's program room. Sale hours are 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Sunday is a "Bag Sale" where for $5 you receive a Friends reusable bag and can fill it with whatever it will hold from the sale.

The Friends Foundation membership, which includes more than 250 local residents and businesses, is always growing. To attend a meeting and learn more about the organization, visit www.huntleylibraryfriends.org, or call Pamela Kampwerth at (847) 669-5386, ext. 28.
