58-year-old Wauconda woman killed in Island Lake crash
A 58-year-old Wauconda woman was killed when she was hit by a vehicle while crossing Route 176 in Island Lake Thursday evening, authorities said.
Linda Murphy was pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was taken after the 7:20 p.m. crash in front of Thornton's Gas Station at the Darrell Road intersection, Island Lake Police said in a news release Friday.
Authorities said Murphy was crossing the roadway when she was hit by a westbound vehicle.
Murphy was alone and was walking home at the time, Deputy Police Chief David Walz said.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured and has not been charged in the crash.
Walz refused to release any information about the driver or the driver's vehicle.
Authorities said the crash and subsequent investigation forced the shutdown of the Route 176 and Darrell for about three-and-a-half hours Thursday.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is assisting in the investigation, authorities said.
