Elgin man gets 6 years for sex assault of autistic woman

A 55-year-old Elgin man pleaded guilty Thursday and was sentenced to six years in prison for sexually assaulting an autistic, mentally disabled woman in 2013.

Kenneth Logwood, of the 100 block of State Street, was held at the Kane County jail on $100,000 bail since his arrest in September 2013.

He must register as a sex offender after his release. He could have received up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony criminal sexual assault.

Judge James Hallock accepted the plea.

Logwood was accused of sexually assaulting the woman in spring 2013 in a van in a church parking lot, records show.

According to an Elgin police search warrant used to obtain a DNA sample from Logwood, the victim's caretaker noticed a bump on her stomach and an August 2013 pregnancy test came up positive.

The victim, who has an IQ of 55, told her caretaker that "Kenny" held her down and had sex with her in a van in the church lot, according to the search warrant.

The caretaker called Logwood, who said he knew what he did was wrong but that the victim wanted to have sex with him, according to the search warrant.

Logwood knew the victim and her aunt from church, according to court documents. The victim later had the pregnancy terminated.
