Villa Park man guilty of murder, arson in 2012 Lombard fire

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - A 26-year-old Villa Park man has been found guilty of first-degree murder for setting a fire that killed his former girlfriend.

Todd Mandoline also was convicted Tuesday of aggravated arson in the July 2012 fire in Lombard. The verdict was reached after a five-day trial.

Mandoline's ex-girlfriend, 24-year-old Paula Morgan, died in the blaze and a man was seriously burned. Prosecutors say Mandoline admitted to lighting Morgan's car on fire after he was kicked out of her 25th birthday party.

The fire eventually spread to her home through an attached garage.

Mandoline is scheduled to return to court next month.
