Spellman: Shaw finding goals tough to get

Fresh off a season where he scored a career-high 20 goals, Andrew Shaw has been struggling to regain that magic touch through the midway point of this season.

The scrappy Blackhawks forward entered the weekend having scored just 1 goal in his last 20 games and has only 6 for the season to go along with 6 assists.

"I've mainly just tried to work hard, go to the net and do all the little things right," Shaw said. "I'm not happy with how I'm helping out offensively, but I've got to keep mentally tough and keep pushing forward."

Shaw brushed aside the notion that playing with a handful of different linemates may have contributed to his slump.

"We've been doing that for years so I'm kind of used to that," he said. "I'm not going to put the blame anywhere except on myself. I haven't been that great.

"But you just have to keep building and having good games and keep building off those."

In praise of Big Buff:

Former Blackhawk Dustin Byfuglien received some polite applause from the crowd at the United Center when his face appeared on the video board during lineup introductions.

Earlier, the defenseman, who has been a big part of the Jets' strong play this season, received some words of praise from his former mates.

"Whether he's at forward or on defense, he has an impact on the game," Patrick Sharp said of Byfuglien, who came into Friday's game with 11 goals and 28 points.

"He's playing well. We've seen him play mostly up front with us and that big body can make a big impact at the net," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "We saw him last time here playing defense and he played extremely well and he's playing like that right now."

Still mending:

Kris Versteeg (hand) has yet to begin skating but remains on schedule to return to action in a couple of weeks or so.

"Once he gets started skating then you'll get a better idea of how close he is to returning, " Joel Quenneville said. "But he's a ways away."

The Fab Three:

In a recently-released NHL video, various players are asked to name the four members of the Beatles.

Hawks forward Patrick Kane was able to name three of the four, missing out only on George Harrison.
