Palatine man charged with 6th DUI

A Palatine man charged with his sixth DUI was ordered held on $125,000 bail Tuesday.

Kenneth Sistler, 51, was charged with a class X felony based on his background, which prosecutors say includes three previous DUI convictions: one in 1998 and two in 2006, one of them in Wisconsin.

Additionally, Sistler was convicted of reckless driving in 1993 and received supervision for DUIs in 1987 and 1993, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin.

On Nov. 8, Palatine police responded to a call about an intoxicated man in a store parking lot at the corner of Reseda Drive and Hicks Road, Shin said.

As police arrived, the man left the parking lot and drove north on Hicks, Shin said. Officers followed the car, which they say swerved and turned sharply into oncoming lanes.

After stopping the car, officers noted that Sistler had bloodshot glassy eyes and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, Shin said. Sistler, who had a valid driver's license, failed field sobriety tests, Shin said.

If convicted, Sistler could face up to 30 years in prison. He next appears in court on Feb. 5.
