Palatine Children's Chorus offers winter Welcome Nights

Palatine Children's Chorus, a program of the Palatine Park District, is offering two free Welcome Nights this winter.

These free evenings offer children and their parents an opportunity to meet program staff and learn more about Palatine Children's Chorus and its individual choirs. Welcome Nights will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12 and at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Palatine Park District Community Center, Room 1C, 250 E. Wood St., Palatine.

Welcome Nights are for children ages 8 and older with their parents. All children who attend a welcome night will be placed in the choir where they will be most comfortable and successful. Choirs for children ages 8 and up include Treble Choir, Intermezzo Choir, Concert Choir and Honors Choir. Singers ages 4 to 7 are encouraged to register for the Sing with Me and Do Re Mi programs through the Palatine Park District at www.palatineparks.org. Winter rehearsals for the choirs will begin Monday, Jan. 19. Older singers rehearse on Mondays, and younger singers rehearse on Wednesdays.

On Monday, Feb. 16, Palatine Children's Chorus will be traveling to perform at New York's famed Carnegie Hall. The group was recommended for this experience by New York composer Francisco Nunez. Past Artistic Director Sue Falbo established this contact during her tenure with Palatine Children's Chorus. To celebrate Black History Month and Chinese New Year, Distinguished Concerts International - New York presents Two Cultures - One Dream. This performance features the world premiere of Earnestine Rodgers Robinson's oratorio, Exodus. The work utilizes biblical themes drawn from the African American gospel and choral tradition. Ringing in the Chinese New Year is Yellow River Cantata by composer Xian Xinghai, with guest conductor Jie Yi and an international cast of musicians.

Palatine Children's Chorus is for children ages 4-18 who love to sing. The Palatine Children's Chorus began its 28th season in September. Singers from throughout the Northwest suburbs enjoy a variety of musical experiences in the Sing with Me (ages 4-5), Do Re Mi (ages 6-7), Treble (age 8+), Intermezzo, Concert and Honors Choirs. The Chorus safely nurtures children's voices, introduces all age groups to a variety of music, and offers each level appropriate and safe vocal instruction and music education. These traveling choirs have performed all around the U.S. and overseas: at New York's famed Carnegie Hall, the renowned Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, in Niagara Falls, Montreal, Quebec, Wales, England, Hawaii, Austria, Venice, San Francisco, Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, and most recently, New Orleans at the St. Louis Cathedral. They have also performed for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Joffrey Ballet, at Lincoln Park Zoo and at the Illinois State Fair as well as at many local Palatine-area venues.

The Palatine Children's Chorus choirs will perform in the spring concerts at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center offered on May 1 and 2. Palatine Children's Chorus members are also participants in the annual One Voice concert, scheduled for Feb. 25 this year.
