Candidates upheld for Campton Hills ballot
The Campton Hills electoral board Friday denied challenges to the election petitions of a candidate for village president and several candidates for trustee.
According to interim village clerk John Strauss, the vote was 3-0 in favor of Harry Blecker, who is running for president, and Mike O'Dwyer and Trustees Susan George and Laura Anderson, who are running for three trustee seats.
Strauss said on Monday he will certify the ballot for the February primary to the Kane County clerk.
"We will turn it in and see what they do," Strauss said.
President Patsy Smith had challenged the petitions, arguing that they filed them during the wrong period - in November for a possible February primary - instead of in December for the April 7 election.
Strauss said that Dec. 24 two people filed paperwork to become write-in candidates: Nicholas Girka is running for clerk and Steven D. Galloway is running for trustee.
Dec. 26 was the deadline for candidates to declare write-in candidacies for the February primary, according to the election calendar published by the Illinois State Board of Elections. Feb. 5 is the deadline for people to declare a write-in campaign for the April 7 election.
At issue was confusion over whether Campton Hills was eligible or required to have a primary.
