$100 to help librarian buy books for sick first-grader

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Heather Akiyoshi of Arlington Heights.

Here is an excerpt of her pitch:

"I would spend the $100 on an adorable first-grader, Ava, who is currently in the hospital having recently received a bone marrow and cord transplant. She was diagnosed last school year with a complicated and rare form of leukemia and is fighting a valiant and courageous battle. I would like to get her some books, audio books and e-books to help comfort her as she spends her days and nights in the hospital. As her librarian at a Buffalo Grove school, I know how much she LOVES books! She has inspired so many with her heroism, wisdom, and faith."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use $100 to do a good deed for someone else.
