Editor's Choice: Northwest holiday lights winner

Q: How long have you been decorating your house like this?

A: Since 2008 at this house, before that a condo in 2005, and before that my parents home since I was a kid.

Q: What inspired you to go all out with your decorations?

A: The window displays at Marshall Field. Visiting those windows as a kid was really inspiring.

Q: How many hours does it take to put up the display?

A: I usually do it on weekends and evenings starting right after Halloween. Maybe three to four weekends, probably 40 hours.

Q: How many strings of lights are involved?

A: I don't know how many strings, but one year I counted just under 7,000 lights. I like to evenly distribute them and focus on the artistic aspect.

Q: How much does your electric bill spike in December?

A: Not a lot actually, because mine is a computer-controlled display, so all of the lights aren't on at the same time. It will probably go up maybe 20-30 bucks, which is not too bad, because I'm switching to energy-efficient LED lights, roughly half right now.

Q: What do your neighbors think of your display?

A: They love it, no complaints whatsoever, even when I'm putting up lights I get compliments. When kids walk by their eyes are always aglow when they see the lights. Even in the summertime people will say that they remember the lights and that they love them.
