Retail theft arrest made in Palatine

A Palatine woman was charged with felony retail theft this week, police said.

Stacy S. Brewer, 40, is accused of trying to take merchandise without paying from Target, 679 E. Dundee Road.

Palatine police were called to the store Monday afternoon for a retail theft report. A loss-prevention officer said he saw a woman and a young man putting items in the woman's purse and in a shopping cart, according to a news release.

The two walked into the store's vestibule, according to police, and were confronted by the loss-prevention officer. They pushed the officer and other employees called 911.

The male went to the parking lot and tried to get away in a 2007 Saturn, but was stopped by authorities.

Merchandise worth $623.11 was in the purse and shopping cart, including video games, clothing and household products.

The woman, Stacy S. Brewer, was charged with felony retail theft. The young male relative she was with will be petitioned to juvenile court.
