Holiday music to ring at West Chicago High School

The West Chicago Community High School Music Department will present the sounds of the season this month in a series of free concerts.

The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, Dec. 15 to 17, in the school's Weyrauch Auditorium, 326 Joliet St., West Chicago.

The series opens Monday, Dec. 15, with performances under the direction of Alexandra Wojciechowski. The concert will feature performances by the Gigging Orchestra, Cello Choir, Men's Quartet, Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra. Music will include Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride," Soon Hee Newbold's "Iditarod," Charles Gonoud's "Marionette Funeral March," Tchaikovsky's march from "The Nutcracker," Georges Bizet's "Farandole," Jean Sibelius' "Andante Festivo" and Eric Ewazen's "The Knight."

On Tuesday, Dec. 16, the school's choirs will perform under the direction of Brandon Fantozzi. The concert will feature a mix of traditional and contemporary holiday selections with an unexpected twist. Selections include "Deck the Halls," "Angels We Have Heard on High" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."

The symphonic and concert bands will perform Wednesday, Dec. 17, under the direction of Steve Govertsen. The Symphonic Band performance will include "Sleigh Ride" and "Foshay Tower Washington Memorial March." The Concert Band will be playing selections from the "Nutcracker Ballet," as well as variations on "Joy to the World."
