St. Charles man charged in fatal crash

A 23-year-old St. Charles man has been charged in a Friday afternoon crash that killed a St. Charles woman, officials said.

Susan Gorecki, 65, was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where she died from her injuries, according to a news release from the St. Charles Police Department.

Joshua Spudich, of the 400 block of South Second Street, has been charged with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence, one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of driving under the influence of drugs, one count of driving with a revoked driver's license and one count of improper lane usage, the release said.

Police were called about 2 p.m. for a crash at the intersection of 2nd Street and Timbers Trail, police said.

Investigators determined that Spudich, who was driving a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe south on Second Street, drifted across the centerline and struck a northbound Toyota Corolla, driven by Gorecki, head on, police said.

Spudich was treated and released for minor injuries at Delnor Hospital. He was taken to the Kane County jail to await bond court.
