'Books Between Bites' looks at the 1933 World's Fair

Batavia's monthly noontime book program, "Books Between Bites," presents a program on the 1933 Chicago World's Fair at noon Thursday, Nov. 20, at Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.

Rick Rann, an amateur historian and a World's Fair aficionado, will share stories, images, and actual artifacts from the fair. The program topic was selected in honor of the 94th birthday of "Books Between Bites" co-founder Betty Moorehead, who spent countless hours at the fair as a child. It is hoped others who remember the fair will attend on Nov. 20.

A Century of Progress International Exposition was a momentous event for Chicago, its citizens, and visitors and participants from all over the world. Rann has collected 1933 Chicago World's Fair items for more than 25 years and co-founded and produces the World's Fair Memorabilia Show, which has been held every spring for the last 20 years.

"Books Between Bites" is held from noon to 1 p.m. in the large community room located just inside the library's main entrance. The public is invited to attend this free program; reservations are not required. Parking is available in the lot just south and adjacent to the library.

People are invited to bring their lunch and eat as they enjoy the program and discussion. Lunch items, beverages and baked goods can be purchased at Chapters Coffee House & Café, located just inside the library and adjacent to the meeting room. To pre-order for pickup just before the program, call Chapters at (630) 406-8005.

"Books Between Bites" was established in Batavia in 1987 by the late Lee C. Moorehead. The program has been continued by Moorehead's wife, Betty, and his daughter, Becky Hoag, in partnership and cosponsorship with George H. Scheetz and Stacey Peterson of Batavia Public Library.

For information, call Becky Hoag at (630) 482-9157. The program runs through May and a complete schedule can be found online at booksbetweenbites.com. Printed season schedules are available at the library.
