Moynihan finally concedes House 56 race to Mussman

Ten days after Election Day, Republican candidate Jim Moynihan called Friday to concede the 56th District state House race to Democratic incumbent Michelle Mussman. The election results from the 57 precincts in Cook and DuPage counties finally stabilized at 14,180 votes for Mussman and 13,417 for Moynihan, giving the incumbent 51.3 percent of the total in her bid for a third term. Though he never gained much ground during the week after the polls closed, Moynihan said he didn't feel compelled to concede the close race until he was confident all the mail-in and provisional ballots had been counted. Both Moynihan and Mussman acknowledged Friday's phone conversation, saying they were happy to put the election behind them and move on.
