Six men charged with drug crimes in Aurora

Six men were recently arrested in Aurora on drug charges, officials said.

John A. Terry III, 43, and Alejandro Sustenas, 54, both of the first block of West Street, sold heroin to an undercover police detective on Oct. 29 around New York Street and East Park Place, according to an email from Aurora Media Relations Manager Dan Ferrelli.

They were arrested and charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Authorities seized 3.12 grams of heroin and $503 in cash.

Authorities then searched their West Street home. Four men were at the home: James P. Steele, 43; Henry Alejandro, 52; Erik Eugene Jones, 42; and Robert E. Merriweather, 56.

Steele, Alejandro and Jones are of the West Street residence while Merriweather is of the 2000 block of West Illinois Avenue.

During the search, Jones put multiple bags of heroin in his mouth, and he fought with officers who attempted to keep him from swallowing them, Ferrelli said.

Jones was taken to an Aurora hospital, and the heroin he ingested was recovered, Ferrelli said.

The four men in the home were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of a park.

Authorities recovered 10.98 grams of heroin and $1,777 from the residence, Ferrelli said.
