Frost Gelato coming Friday to Naperville

Frost is coming to Naperville, just in time for winter.

This Frost isn't exactly the meteorological type, but an edible variety.

Frost Gelato is scheduled to open Friday at 50 S. Main St., suite 139, in Naperville's Main Street Promenade East development at Main Street and Van Buren Avenue.

The shop's opening coincides with the day Naperville will illuminate its downtown holiday lights for the first time this season. At 6 p.m. Friday at Main Street and Jefferson Avenue, Mayor George Pradel will count down to the city's unofficial launch of the holiday season before flipping the switch on 300,000 bulbs on trees and rooftops.

Frost Gelato, which also has a location in Highland Park, is celebrating the opening of its second suburban location with a "Gelato Lotto," contest. Dessert fans can text "lotto" to 21333 with their email address to be entered to win free Frost Gelato for a year. Fifty second-place winners will get a free "piccolo" sized small gelato, and everyone who enters will receive a free small hot chocolate or coffee.

Frost is the latest business to open in Main Street Promenade East, a $30 million retail and office building attached to the west side of the city's Van Buren parking deck. Other shops to launch there since developer BBM Inc. of Naperville completed the building this summer include tea shop DavidsTea and clothing retailers EverEve, J. Crew and Anthropologie.

Frost makes its gelato each day in the shop using imported ingredients and equipment from Italy, where gelato, a frozen dessert similar to ice cream, is king of sweet treats.

The store says it offers "something for every craving" with flavors including bubble gum, pumpkin and gianduia, which blends chocolate with hazelnut. Monthly seasonal flavors to watch for as Frost enters the winter season include marshmallow and black licorice.

Beginning Friday, Frost Gelato will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.
