Quigley wins easily in Congress Dist. 5

As expected, incumbent Congressman Mike Quigley breezed to an easy victory Tuesday night in Illinois' 5th Congressional District. With 98 percent of the vote counted in unofficial totals, Quigley had 108,725 votes or 63.2 percent of the vote. Chicago Republican Vince Kolber, who filled a vacancy on the ballot in June, had 44,715 votes or 26 percent, while Green Party candidate Nancy Wade of Chicago captured 18,574 votes and nearly 11 percent of the total.

In 2012, Quigley won with nearly 66 percent of the vote, while Wade finished third with 5.7 percent.

Quigley, a former Cook County Commissioner who has been in Congress since 2009, lives in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood with his wife, Barbara. With concerns about the expansion of O'Hare International Airport and noise complaints from nearby residents, Quigley formed a Quiet Skies Caucus and has been active in public meetings.

The 5th District starts at Lake Michigan in Chicago and comes out northwest to O'Hare Airport, with bits of Des Plaines and Rosemont, plus large sections of Bensenville, Elmhurst, Oak Brook and Hinsdale.
