Blackberry Twp. to lend medical equipment
In early October, Blackberry Township Supervisor Fred Dornback received a call from a resident. Did the township have a wheelchair the resident could borrow for his father to use during a weekend visit to the son's home?
"As I talked to (the resident), he explained his dad was coming to visit for the weekend and needed a wheelchair to get around. The family had some outdoor activities planned that would have been too much for his dad to deal with without some assistance," Dornback said.
That's how the township's new medical equipment lending program was birthed.
Starting Saturday, the township is offering to help residents borrow medical equipment that is needed temporarily. If it doesn't have the item in stock, it will help look elsewhere for it, Dornback said.
"It (the request) made clear that we could offer a no-cost opportunity for residents of Blackberry Township that were in need of loaner medical equipment on a short- or long-term basis," Dornback said in a prepared statement.
Requests may be made by calling (630) 365-9109, ext. 4, or sending an email to supervisor@blackberrytwp.com.
Township Trustee Harley Veldhuizen is helping because he is a member of the Elburn American Legion, which has such a program.

The township has also starting a monthly social meeting for senior citizens. The first is from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the town hall, 43W390 Main Street Road, Elburn. Mostly it will be for people to talk while playing cards and board games or working on jigsaw puzzles, but occasionally information sessions will be held, according to Dornback.
