St. Charles East runs away with title
St. Charles East put four runners in the top 10 to win the Class 3A Glenbard North regional going away Saturday morning in Glendale Heights.
Mark Sciurba (second, 14:55), Jack Rzpecki (sixth, 15:26), Will Muckian (eighth, 15:32) and Mike Gerkin (ninth, 15:41) all placed top 10 while senior Mike Skora wasn't far behind in 15th in 15:49.
Geneva and St. Charles North also advanced to next week's St. Charles East sectional in second and fourth, respectively. Only the Saints' 40-point total beat the 72 turned in by the Vikings, who were led by Mitchael Deamantopulos (third, 15:02), junior Jake Tracey (13th, 15:47), freshman Boon Andrews (16th, 15:49), junior Brian Caskey (18th, 15:52), sophomore Brian Kuehl (22nd, 15:55) and sophomore Tyler Dau (23rd, 15:58).
Senior Max Markowicz continued to lead St. Charles North placing seventh in 15:29. Sophomore Brett Lee was next in 14th with junior Carter Stibgen (19th, 15:52), senior Chris Suda (30th, 16:08) and junior Joey Rangel (32nd, 16:11) making up the North Stars' top five.
West Chicago regional: Marmion scored 93 points and Batavia had 103 to finish third and fourth Saturday at the Class 3A West Chicago regional and qualify for next week's St. Charles East sectional.
Only Naperville Central and Naperville North finished ahead with 46 and 48 points.
Brady Bobbitt continued his banner senior season for Marmion by winning the race in 15:25 - six seconds ahead of Naperville Central's Geoffrey McCullough.
Junior Andrew Burroughs (10th, 15:52), freshman Michael Ronzone (12th, 15:58), sophomore Andrew Lifka (25th, 16:22) and junior Christian Surtz (47th, 17:09) made up Marmion's top five.
For its five scores Batavia counted Ryan Wieties (ninth, 15:52), David Morrison (15th, 16:05), Patrick Redmond (16th, 16:08), Shea Bastian (22nd, 16:18) and Zachary Choffin (41st, 16:50).
West Aurora junior Connor McCue finished as the top individual qualifier running a 15:56 for 11th place.
Woodstock regional: Junior Austin Kintz and freshman Matthew Richtman both broke 17 minutes in 16:46 and 16:56 to help Kaneland take fifth place Saturday at the Class 2A Woodstock regional and return home next week for a sectional the Knights are hosting.
Senior Brandon Park followed in 17:11. Junior Sean Spaetzel (17:38), senior Mitch Reger (17:50), sophomore Andrew Kantola (17:59) and junior Will Kuipers (18:32) rounded out the Knights' seven regional runners.
