Waukegan schools will be closed on Monday

School has been canceled on Monday for Waukegan Community Unit School District 60, the district announced.

Teachers have been on strike since Oct. 2. Negotiations between the district and the teachers union will resume at 10 a.m. Monday.

The district said it made its most recent counterproposal to the union on Friday. There was no full resolution, the district said.

The board's two-year offer includes:

• A 4 percent raise in year one and an additional 3.25 percent raise in year two for teachers with 22 years of experience or less.

• A 5.75 percent raise in year one and a 5.75 percent raise in year two for teachers with 23 years of experience.

• A 3.10 percent raise in year one and an additional 3 percent raise in year two for teachers with more than 23 years of experience.

• Fully funded health insurance premiums.
