Boys soccer: Northwest roundup
Sean King and Zach Masciopinto had goals to help 14th-seeded Buffalo Grove stun North Suburban Conference champion and top Palatine sectional seed Warren 2-1 in the Class 3A boys soccer playoffs Tuesday.
The Bison will meet Wheeling, which advanced with a forfeit victory over Waukegan, in a regional final scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Friday at Buffalo Grove.
at Barrington
Thirteenth-seeded Stevenson eliminated the fourth-seeded Broncos with a 1-0 decision in overtime.
The later game at Barrington was also a seeding surprise as No. 12 Highland Park topped No. 5 Hersey 1-0.
Stevenson and Highland Park will decide the regional championship at 6 p.m. Saturday.
at Lake Zurich
Mid-Suburban League champion Fremd shut out Deerfield 2-0, and in the later game, 11th-seeded Lake Zurich stopped No. 6 Palatine 3-1. The Vikings and Bears will meet at 5 p.m. Friday to decide the regional championship.
at Glenbrook South
Leyden advanced with a 3-0 victory over Schurz and will meet Glenbrook South, a 5-2 winner against Taft, for the regional championship. The Eagles and Titans will play at 5 p.m. Friday at Glenbrook South in the regional final.
at St. Charles East
The top-ranked team in the Bartlett sectional had trouble with No. 17 seed Hoffman Estates before the regional host Saints ultimately advanced with a 3-2 decision.
St. Charles East will meet West Chicago in the regional final round after the Wildcats eliminated Conant 1-0.
at New Trier
The host Trevians rolled past Von Steuben 4-0 and will meet Glenbrook North in the regional title game after the Spartans ended Maine West's season with a 7-1 win over the Warriors.
at Evanston
Prospect saw its season come to an end with a 2-0 loss to the regional host Wildkits.
