Shaw getting good at re-directing shots

Andrew Shaw is getting pretty good at this stuff.

For the second time in as many games, the plucky Blackhawks forward parked himself in front of the opposition's net and deflected in a shot for a goal.

“He's got a quick set of hands, he finds the puck, he's tricky offensively with a nice set of mitts,” Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. “He's willing to get to the tough areas.

“(Tomas) Holmstrom was the guy you always measured as far as effectiveness in doing that job perfectly and hopefully Shaw can keep getting better at it because he's pretty good right now.”

Shaw's power-play tally Wednesday was the Hawks' lone goal despite taking a whopping 50 shots in their 2-1 loss to Calgary.

It capped off a big night for Shaw, who won 62 percent (8 of 13) of his faceoffs and added a team-high 4 hits.

Cumiskey parked:

After not dressing for the first three games of the season, defenseman Kyle Cumiskey was placed on waivers by the Blackhawks on Thursday and if he clears, will be assigned to the Rockford IceHogs.

The numbers:

The Hawks' 50 shots on goal were the league's highest single-game total this season. … The Hawks outshot Calgary 18-2 in the first period, marking their second-highest shot total for a single period this season.

He said it:

“Good ending. Almost like a golf game. Our drive went in the woods, but we took a stroke and we found a way to make a par.”
