Glass Pumpkin Patch opening at Morton Arboretum
If you're looking for a pumpkin that will last for years and already is decorated, you may want to check out Lisle's Morton Arboretum this weekend.
Starting at 1 p.m. Friday, 4,300 very unusual pumpkins - each one made of glass - will go on sale at the plant museum.
For several years, artists from around the country have created an amazing variety of glassblown pumpkins for the arboretum's Glass Pumpkin Patch and more than a dozen of those folks will be on hand through the weekend to display their works and demonstrate their craft.
A few of the pumpkins will sell for more than $250, but there will be plenty of others that are significantly less costly.
"As the years go on and the artists get more experience and start using more intricate techniques with their glass, the price may go up, but we always keep the same range (for most of the pumpkins) from $25 to $30 and up," said Jacque Fucilla, co-producer of the Glass Pumpkin Patch. "We always try to have something in the patch for everybody."
The hours for this weekend's sale are 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-19 at the arboretum, 4100 Route 53. The pumpkins go on display at 10 a.m. Friday.
