So much potential

This room is large, with lots of potential, but time, money and lack of expertise have hampered us. It's just really boring and outdated and such a large rectangular room is difficult to know how to arrange furniture in. Also, I have at least 8,000 people who read my emails, blog posts and social media, who would be interested in what the designers do. I'd love to see what can be done with a large room with big corner windows!

The room has the opportunity to accommodate a lot of seating either to function for a large party or individual conversation areas. For the space planning, on the front half of the living room I have used a sofa and a settee that face each other in a neutral gray color. By using a rug to define the area you are separating the two separate seating areas. The back half the room with the corner windows, I have created a cocktail lounge feel to be entertained by the piano.

The chairs are all on swivels in a geometric pattern, all chairs can rotate to accommodate what may be occurring in the room. If there are people playing the piano and you would like to turn and face them, swivel! If you would like to enjoy a beautiful day and look out the window, enjoy a cup of coffee or a cocktail, swivel! There is a large group of people and you would like to join in on the conversion on the front half of the room, swivel! Is there a group of people all sitting and chatting having a group conversion you have a close intimate space that you can enjoy.

For the overall style, I used current trends in patterns, colors and motifs. The rug has an Ikat design in it that is popping up everywhere. I did a balance between Transitional and Hollywood Glam to create a formal look for the space.

The detail of the nail heads in a brushed nickel that repeat in the cocktail table, lamp and accessories bring in the formal feel of the space. Where the colors are is what truly make the space shine. The combination of color and designs give a creative, bright and fresh feel to the space.
