Palatine to re-evaluate medical marijuana proposal rejected last month

A proposal to establish a medical marijuana dispensary in Palatine that previously was rejected by the village council will be reconsidered next year.

The plan, presented to the board by Northwest Medical Distribution, would convert the building at 400 S. Vermont Road into a facility that would sell medical marijuana to patients signed up under the state pilot program. The council rejected the plan 5-2 on Sept. 15.

On Monday, the council voted 6-1 to table a motion to re-evaluate the proposal until its Jan. 5, 2015, meeting.

Councilman Kollin Kozlowski said the date was requested by the petitioner, Northwest Medical Distribution, so it would have time to prepare its presentation and materials.

"We are trying to be fair to them," said Kozlowski, who voted against the proposal in September.

More than a dozen members of the public spoke out against the proposal when it went before the board last month. Many said they had a problem with a medical marijuana dispensary located so close to their homes.
