Carpentersville woman charged with murdering sister

A Carpentersville woman was charged Wednesday with the stabbing death of her sister.

Sandra Baumgartner, 53, faces three counts of first-degree murder in the Monday night death of Sharon Baumgartner, 57, of Carpentersville, police said.

Police said that about 9:45 p.m. Monday, Sandra stabbed her sister multiple times.

Two neighbors each called police after hearing a disturbance in an apartment on the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue. Police found Sharon Baumgartner bleeding, and she died a short time later. The sisters lived in separate apartments in the same building, police said.

Police said Sandra Baumgartner fled the scene, but was found several hours later in a wooded area near her home.

Sandra Baumgartner is expected to appear in Kane County bond court at 9 a.m. Thursday in St. Charles. She remains in custody at the Kane County jail, police said.

If convicted, she faces a sentence of between 20 and 60 years in prison, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's office.
