Barrington tops Lake Forest in Lake County meet

Barrington junior Kirsten Jacobsen hasn't necessarily turned the corner, so to speak, despite her dominant performance in Saturday's Lake County meet at Lake Forest.

"I was happy to see my time improve," said Jacobsen, who won the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best 1:52.00. "The one thing I still need to work on are my turns."

Jacobsen, the state record holder in the 200 free, also captured the 500 freestyle in leading Barrington to the championship. The Fillies' 269.50 points were enough to edge runner-up Lake Forest (257.50), while Libertyville (233) was third. Mundelein (157) and Stevenson (146) rounded out the top five in the nine-team field.

"Kirsten continues to get better," Barrington coach Jim Bart said.

Barrington won the 200 free relay (1:39.03) with Andrea Vega, Sara Kate Capel, Emma Toth and Jacobsen. The Fillies took second in the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

"We did great in the relays," Bart said. "This was a real good meet for us to win."

Jacobsen won the 500 in 5:06.84; Maggie Emary (5:09.37) and Maggie Menso (5:13.89) finished second and third in the event for an impressive Fillies event sweep.

Lake Forest junior Reilly Lanigan won the 100 butterfly (57.83) and 200 individual medley (2:07.96).

"I'm pretty happy with what I did today," said Lanigan, who swam nearly four seconds faster than runner-up Vega in the 200 IM. "My fly was a little shaky. I was a little tired. But the IM definitely felt really good."

"I felt that Reilly did a great job for us today," Lake Forest coach Carolyn Grevers said. "We need our team working on placing in second, third and fourth. Which will get us points."

Libertyville's Meredith Robbins, Macey Neubauer, Staci Herchenbach and Emma Richert won the 200 medley relay in 1:48.52.

Mundelein's Erin Falconer won the 100 freestyle in 52.30 and finished second in the 200 freestyle behind Jacobsen.

"I'm real excited that I won the 100," Falconer said. "I felt my 200 was good, but I could have done better."

Mundelein's Rachel Robb finished fourth in the 100.

"I was happy the way we finished today," Mundelein coach Rahul Sethna said. "We need some of our younger members to finish higher."

Lake Forest's Maddie Smith, Jo Annin, Ella Needler and Lanigan took the 400 free relay in 3:37.94.

Warren's Courtney Barker captured the 50 freestyle in 24.19 and finished second in the 100 backstroke (58.8), as she got touched out by Lake Forest's Haley Nelson (58.09).

"It was a good race," Barker said of her backstroke. "We're trying to get more backstrokers."

Vernon Hills' Lisa Cheng finished second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free. Libertyville got a runner-up swim from Herchenbach in the 100 butterfly. Stevenson's Ashlin Ruiz placed fourth in the 100 butterfly.
