Fenton remains undefeated

Fenton stopped Elmwood Park 35-6 in a Metro Suburban Conference crossover football game on Friday in Bensenville.

Fenton quarterback Willie Wassmann was 7-of-15 passing for 118 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead the Bison to their fourth win heading into conference play next week against Glenbard South.

"We've had these seniors since they were sophomores," said Bison coach Mark Kos. "They know what it takes to be successful in varsity football. We're not fooling ourselves, it's going to be a great conference race. All the teams in there have a chance to win it. We have to make the most of our opportunities."

The Bison defense held the Tigers to a negative-6 yards of total offense in the first half. The Tigers (1-3) have had a rough start this season playing teams that are bigger and more experienced.

"We've got to find a way to move the ball consistently," said Tigers coach John Freeman. "We're a young team. Hopefully, our quarterbacks will come along. We have to figure out who we are as a team."

Fenton's Kyle McPherson opened the scoring with a 1-yard run followed by Wassmann's touchdown passes to Josh Casey for 26 yards and to Cody Quarles for 15 to take a 21-0 lead into halftime. Quarles scored just as the half ended.

"It was huge confidence booster, right before the half is always big," Quarles said.

The Tigers' only score was set up with an interception by Dominic Cadetto, who ran the ball back 51 yards to the Bison 28-yard line. Yamill Matos capped it off with a 28-yard reception from Brandon Romero to cut the Bison lead to 21-6.

But the Bison (4-0) came back to score on a 9-yard run by Matt Lucas, and Wassmann connected again with Quarles for 25 yards and a touchdown to put the game in the win column.

"In the second half they scored right away and we answered right back and shut them down for the rest of the game," Quarles said. "We all think this is going to be the greatest team to ever walk through the halls of Fenton High School."

With eight seniors making up the core group of this team, confidence is high.

"This is the best attitude I've seen in three years," Wassmann said. "We all work together as a family. We keep doing what we do best."
