Fourth attempt to sentence former Wheaton North Booster president coming Friday

After three previous failed attempts, a DuPage County judge is expected Friday to sentence the former Wheaton North High School Booster Club president who pleaded guilty to stealing more than $11,000 from the organization.

Dorothy “Dee” Horky, 58, of Winfield, was expected to be released Wednesday from the Central DuPage Hospital psychiatric ward, according to her attorney Tim Martin.

“As soon as she is released, arrangements have been made for her husband to drive her here to turn herself in on the warrant,” Martin told Judge Daniel Guerin. “And we are asking for her sentencing hearing to be moved up to Friday.”

Guerin issued a no-bail warrant for Horky on Aug. 28 when she failed to attend her third consecutive court date. When she is sentenced, she faces either probation or between three and seven years in prison for the thefts.

When Horky failed to appear last month, Martin told Guerin that in the middle of the night, before the hearing, Horky left a voice message at Martin's office indicating she would harm herself at 4:30 a.m.

Winfield police, along with DuPage County state's attorney investigators, then went to Horky's home for a well-being check around 10 a.m. and found her “lethargic” and laying on a couch watching television.

In June, Martin told Guerin that Horky had not been honest with him about having surgery that caused her to miss her May 29 court date and was instead receiving outpatient medical treatment for a different situation.

When Horky turns herself in on the warrant she will be held in DuPage County jail with no chance of bail until her sentencing date.

From May 2006 through May 2011, Horky served as president of the booster club and was issued a club credit card with her name on it.

Investigators said Horky took cash advances totaling $10,985.53 between July 2012 and November 2012.

She then withdrew $9,838.32 from a club bank account that she had access to and transferred that money to pay for the cash advances she had taken on the credit card.

She was arrested in March 2013 and has been free on $500 bond ever since.
