Terrell, Wheeling rise to the occasion

Wheeling's girls volleyball team improved to 7-8 and 2-0 in the Mid-Suburban East with a 25-13, 26-24 victory at Elk Grove on Tuesday.

Sophomore outside hitter Timber Terrell put down 7 kills to lead the Wildcats followed by Lani Greenberg (3), Domenica Montesin (2), Michaela Vasey (2), Deanna Kuzmanic (1) and Sabrina Semeria (1), who also handed out 11 assists with 8 digs.

Alexa Laureano led the defense with 13 digs while Kuzmanic had 12.

Hersey d. Rolling Meadows: Liz Fuerst and Gabriella Olhava each put down 5 kills to lead host Hersey (6-4) to a 25-10, 25-12 victory.

Kelly Hill and Caity Strozewski each added 3 kills while Zoe Strozewski added 2 kills. Courtney Stedman was 27-of-27 setting with 15 assists.

Joslyn Kerman (5 aces) and Paige Pannozzo (3 aces) were among the Huskies' top servers.

Junior Hannah Mickey led the Mustangs (1-7, 0-2) with 4 kills and 4 blocks while Gabby Johns had 2 kills and 1 block.

Fremd d Palatine: Visiting Fremd (7-2, 2-0) received a match-high 7 kills from Lane Hindenburg in a 25-17, 26-24 MSL West triumph.

Hope Schroeder added 9 kills for the Vikes and Ysabel Lee 3.

Setter Carly Roberts handed out 14 assists and Aubrey Stegich had 11 digs.

Palatine was led by junior Heather Holz (6 kills) on attack while sophomore Sydney Christiansen had 13 assists and sophomore Alyssa Kronberg 2 aces.

Barrington d. Hoffman Estates: Megan Talbot (7 kills), Katie Clement (4) and Gabrielle Morris (3) were top attackers for the host Fillies (3-6, 1-1) in a 25-18 25-18 triumph.

Teammates Jessica Jones handed out 9 assists and Olivia Hagan had 4.

Hoffman Estates (1-7, 0-2) was led by senior Kelsey Warford who had 3 kills.

Buffalo Grove d. Prospect: Taking their cues from Marie Georgoulis (16 assists), Monica Browne (6 kills), Sara Biesiadecki (5) and Tegan Hutchings (3) led host Buffalo Grove (6-3, 2-0) in a 25-18, 25-22 victory.

Prospect (2-3, 0-2) was led on attack by Kaeli Myers (5 kills). Catherine Sherwood (4) and Mary Mazurek (3).

Leyden d. Proviso East: Host Leyden (2-2) posted a 25-21, 25-15 victory behind sophomore setter Autumn McGee (6 kills, 22 assists), junior outside hitter Emily Steininger (11 kills) and junior outside hitter Sarah Steininger (6 kills).
