ComEd: 930 suburban homes still without power
Approximately 930 houses, most of which are in the Northwest and North suburbs, remain without electrical power Sunday afternoon in the wake of Friday's violent storms, according to ComEd.
ComEd officials expect the vast majority of the remaining customers to be restored to full power late Sunday night. There may be extended restoration times in pockets of hardest hit areas, according to an update on ComEd's website.
Most of the outages were caused by broken limbs and uprooted trees falling onto power lines.
"There was a lot of wind," ComEd spokesman John Schoen said Saturday. "The Northwest suburbs got hit hardest."
The storms knocked out power for more than 174,000 customers.
Service had been restored to 171,070 customers by Sunday at 7:30 p.m., according to an update on ComEd's website.
About 600 work crews are working around the clock to clear out storm damage and get all customers restored, according to ComEd.
