Girls volleyball: Fox Valley roundup Thursday, Sept. 4

Larkin d. Bartlett 25-18, 25-13: With a good offensive attack, the Royals (2-7, 0-1) came away with a win over the host Hawks in an Upstate Eight Conference crossover matchup. Amelia Gill (8 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs, 1 block) and Danielle Newquist (6 kills, 3 aces, 6 digs) helped the Royals to just their second win while Natalie Kofie added 16 assists and 9 digs. For the Hawks (2-3, 1-2), Jenna Kummerer and Natalie Moll each had 4 kills, with Kummerer adding 6 digs.

Streamwood d. East Aurora 25-12, 25-15: The Sabres (1-2, 0-1) picked up their first win of the year in dominating fashion over the Tomcats in UEC crossover play. New head coach Sheryl Hettinger liked what her team brought to the court Thursday saying, "We looked like a totally different team with a little bit of confidence." Jenejha Williams, Lauren Schiferl and Paula Koszyk combined for 11 kills on the night.

Cary-Grove d. McHenry 23-25, 25-12, 25-13: Coming back after dropping the first set, the Trojans (2-0, 1-0) picked up their first Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win over McHenry. Alli Splitt provided much of the offense with 5 kills and 3 aces while teammate Bree Coffey added 4 aces of her own along with 9 digs.

Crystal Lake South d. Jacobs 25-14, 25-11: Even at the start of conference play the Gators (7-2, 1-0) do not look to be slowing down, getting the FVC Valley win over the Golden Eagles at home. Carly Nolan led the offense with 12 kills while Cassy Sivesind added 15 assists and 6 digs.

Harvest Christian d. IMSA 25-6, 25-12: The Lions (3-4, 1-0) kicked off Northeastern Athletic Conference play in a big way with a convincing win of IMSA on the road. Ellie Burzlaff (7 aces, 5 kills) and Mikayla Robinson (6 kills, 3 blocks) led the way on offense with Jade Martinez adding 15 assists.

Westminster Christian d. Cornerstone 25-14, 25-5: Behind a strong showing from Emma Kozachevich, the Warriors (1-2) picked up their first win of the year in nonconference action. Kozachevich finished with 5 aces, 2 kills and 4 assists while teammates Savannah Dutcher and Emily Lamp added 6 kills and 2 digs along with 6 assists and 2 kills respectively.

St. Edward d. Aurora Central Catholic 25-15, 25-16: Led by Dominique Washington, the Green Wave (7-2, 1-0) nabbed their first Metro Suburban West victory. Washington finished with 8 kills, 9 assists and an ace. Teammates Cecile Rapp (4 kills) and Alyssa Saunders (3 aces) also contributed.

Burlington Central d. Byron 27-25, 25-18: Facing a team with seven games played for the season opener may not be ideal, but the Rockets (1-0) rose to occasion and walked out of Byron's gym with a win to start the season. Lauren Wiltsie (3 aces, 7 kills, 3 blocks, 13 digs) led the way while Aly DeTamble (8 kills, 8 digs) and Maddy Berry (14 assists, 4 kills, 4 blocks) came up big as well.
