Citizens police academy:
The Lake County sheriff's office is accepting applications for a citizens police academy. This free, 10-week program - to be held at various locations in the county - will show participants how police officers do their jobs. Classes are on Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Applications are due by Sept. 12. For more information, call deputy Roman Buchberger at (847) 377-4211.
