Airport in Wheeling hosts inaugural Run the Runway event

An open house Saturday at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling began with the inaugural Run the Runway 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk to raise funds for scholarships awarded through the Chicago Area Business Aviation Association Scholarship Foundation.

After the run, people could enjoy a variety of Chicago-area food trucks and a free aircraft display.

Chicago Area Business Aviation Association is a grass-roots organization formed by business aviation professionals. It offers scholarships valued at nearly $100,000 through the proceeds of this and other fundraising events.

Chicago Executive Airport covers 411 acres. Approximately 300 aircraft are based on the field and approximately 200,000 takeoffs and landings occur annually.
