Lake Zurich motorcyclist critically injured in Arlington Heights crash

A 40-year-old Lake Zurich man remains hospitalized in critical condition Thursday after a two-vehicle crash on Rand Road in Arlington Heights, police said.

The man was riding a 2007 Suzuki Boulevard motorcycle southeast on Rand near Kennicott Ave about 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

A driver of a 2004 Ford Expedition — a 23-year-old Arlington Heights man — was making a left turn into a shopping mall when he crossed in front of the motorcycle, police said.

The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the Ford Expedition. The Arlington Heights man fled the crash, but was later taken into custody near his home, police said.

The motorcyclist suffered major injuries to his head and spine, police said. He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. The SUV driver was not injured.

Police continue to investigate the crash and do not believe alcohol played a role.

The driver of the Ford Expedition remains in police custody, but charges have not been filed as of Thursday afternoon.
