District 54 reopens 27 schools, prepares for 28th

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 welcomed back students to 27 of its schools Tuesday - with the ribbon-cutting for its 28th coming Thursday.

That's when the district's special-needs and at-risk 3- to 5-year-old and their families will get their first looks at the new Early Learning Center next to the district's administration building in Schaumburg.

Older students were meeting their teachers and learning their new schedules Tuesday morning, including at Anne Fox School in Hanover Park.

Fox School pioneered many back-to-school traditions that have since been adopted by other schools in District 54, including reaching out to families in the days before the start of classes and welcoming students to their first day with faculty members, parents and others from the community forming a "tunnel of hope" between their outstretched arms.
