Truck fatally drags moped driver in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Police in South Bend have been searching for a pickup truck they say fatally dragged a moped driver underneath the truck for nearly two blocks.

Police say 53-year-old Quenton Freeman and a woman were on the moped when it was hit from behind on a street on the city's south side.

Capt. Phil Trent tells the South Bend Tribune that 56-year-old Lynn Gentry was knocked off the moped but Freeman was dragged more than 1,000 feet before becoming dislodged. The truck then dragged the moped two more blocks before it came loose.

Dorothy Gentry tells WSBT-TV the last thing her daughter remembers is a speeding truck coming from behind as she rode with her longtime boyfriend early Sunday. Lynn Gentry was hospitalized with broken legs and a broken pelvis.
