Retired Wisconsin deputy held in slayings of wife, sister-in-law

FITCHBURG, Wis. - A Fitchburg police lieutenant says charges are likely early this week against a recently retired Dane County sheriff's deputy accused of fatally shooting his wife and sister-in-law.

Lt. Todd Stetzer says Andy Steele is being treated at a hospital for injuries consistent with a suicide attempt. Fitchburg police say Steele is suspected of killing 39-year-old Ashlee Steele and 38-year-old Kacee Tollesfsbol, of Lake Elmo, Minn. on Friday.

The State Journal reports Fitchburg police say the women were found shot in the Steele home.

The 39-year-old deputy took a medical retirement this summer. Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney says Steele's former colleagues are trying to "make sense out of nonsense" in dealing with the deaths.
